Monster-Spirited events set for January at the Ocean Center

The Monster X Tour is coming to the Ocean Center Jan. 7 and 8. Monster Trucks will compete in racing action, freestyle and vertical wheelie contests. Side acts include Metal Mulisha Freestyle and Quad Racing. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7; and 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8. Tickets and VIP seats can be purchased at the Ocean Center box office, at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at
Ticketmaster, or by phone at 800-745-3000.

More than 5,000 participants from private clubs and school cheer squads and about 7,500 spectators are expected to visit the Ocean Center Jan. 14 - 16 for the State Cheer and Dance Championships sponsored by "The American Championships." Tickets are available at the door beginning at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 14. Payment method is cash only. Friday night and one-day tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for children 6 - 12, seniors 65 and older and members of the military; two-day tickets are $33 for adults and 25 for children 6 - 12, seniors 65 and older and members of the military; three-day tickets are $39 for adults and $32 for children 6 - 12, seniors 65 and older and members of the military. Last year, the event brought a nearly $17 million economic impact to Volusia County, according to Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (DBACVB) officials.

Fire-Rescue EAST, a convention sponsored by the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association (FFCA), is another collaborative booking effort by the Ocean Center and the DBACVB. It will be at the Ocean Center Jan. 19 - 22. With an expected attendance of 4,000, the group will book more than 2,000 room nights and generate an economic impact of more than $2 million, according to the DBACVB. Although this is an industry event, the public is invited to register and attend the free expo, the National Advanced/Basic Life Support Team Competition Jan. 21 and the International Fire Service Honor Guard Competition. During the expo, a refurbished and painted pink fire truck will be given to Pink Heal Tour at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21. Emergency services vehicles, apparatus, equipment, uniforms, turnout gear, personal protective equipment and a variety of equipment, tools and gadgets for use in the home or at work will be displayed in the exhibit hall and arena from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday, January 21; and 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22. Members of the public who wish to attend the expo must register at the FFCA registration booth at the Ocean Center arena, which can be accessed off Earl Street or Auditorium Boulevard.

Florida Huddle is a travel symposium appointment show coming to the Ocean Center Jan. 24 - 25. Attendees include about 200 international and domestic travel trade buyers, including all tour operators who can market Volusia County to travel agencies and consumers worldwide. Two hundred Florida-based suppliers and several representatives from Visit Florida also will attend. Florida Huddle is the only trade show in the world that is owned and operated by Floridians and brings qualified buyers and journalists to Florida to meet with Florida sellers.

The Team Connection Daytona Beach 100 and USA Volleyball Boys’ Florida Fest events will spike their way into the Volusia County Ocean Center from Jan. 28 - 30. It’s the second time the events will be at the facility. The Team Connection Daytona Beach 100 is a two-day junior girls’ volleyball tournament, which will be held in the Ocean Center exhibit hall. Competitors are ages 8 - 18. The USA Volleyball junior boys’ Florida Fest Bid Tournament also will be in the Ocean Center exhibit hall on the same days. These are two of the few volleyball events in the United States that combine junior boys’ and girls’ teams in the same venue. The events are open to the public. Tickets will be sold at the door and are $8 per day or $12 for a multi-day pass.
