Florida Key Club Conference hosts DCON at Ocean Center for first time

April 21 through 24, the Ocean Center will be filled with hundreds of future leaders as the Florida Key Club's 84 Annual Conference takes over the building. The event will bring together over 900 high school students, along with chaperones, to further their involvement within the organization and learn how best to provide service, build character and develop leadership.

This will be the first year the Ocean Center hosts the Florida District Education and Leadership Conference (DCON), which offers attendees leadership training, shared experiences with members of other clubs, and a better understanding of Key Club International.

“Key Club works to empower students, and our annual conference is no different,” said District Conference Chair Dominic Sandell. “From planning the topics and activities to promoting the conference, everything is very student-driven. We want to ensure that students not only learn skills they can use moving forward, but also enjoy DCON and look back on it as a worthwhile and enjoyable experience.”

Organizers also feel the location change will contribute positively to the overall success of the event.

“Hosting DCON at the Ocean Center gives us the opportunity to grow the conference,” said District Conference Chair Elise Butler, “The Daytona Beach area is a great destination and we’re optimistic that it’s a place our students will be excited to visit.”

“The Daytona Beach area and the Ocean Center will deliver a great experience for both the students and guests attending DCON,” said Lori Campbell Baker, the executive director for the Daytona Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Events such as DCON provide positive economic impact in the community as well as showcase everything the destination has to offer to visitors.”

The Florida District of Key Club, a branch of the Florida District of Kiwanis, is one of 33 districts that make up Key Club International. It is comprised of more than 20,000 members in over 400 clubs within the state of Florida, the Cayman Islands, and Turks and Caicos. The organization strives to teach students life skills by serving their homes, schools, and communities. To learn more about the organization, visit https://floridakeyclub.org/.

Florida Key Club Conference is scheduled to return to the Ocean Center annually through 2027.
