Ocean Center welcomes USA Gymnastics for National Championships

While the anxiously awaited Olympic Games are a still over two months away, the Ocean Center Daytona Beach is welcoming future Olympians this week as the 2021 USA Gymnastics Development Program National Championships take place at the facility.

This year, for the first time, the event brings together both the men’s and women’s events under the same roof for one competition. Many of the nation’s top elite gymnasts are alumni of previous men’s and women’s championships, which were held separately under the name Junior Olympic Nationals.

“In addition to creating greater connection between disciplines, combining these two iconic events will provide the nation’s top up-and-coming artistic gymnasts the opportunity to compete and be recognized on one of the highest stages,” said Stefanie Korepin, USA Gymnastics’ Chief Programs Officer. “We are thrilled to bring this marquee event to the Ocean Center and look forward to concluding a successful 2020-21 USA Gymnastics Development Program competitive season with the inaugural national championships this week in Daytona Beach.”

May 13 through 16, more than 1,500 Women’s Level 10 athletes and Men’s Level 8, 9 and 10 athletes will compete at the Ocean Center for titles in the All-Around, Individual Event and Regional Team categories. The championships serve as the culmination of the competitive season for USA Gymnastics Development Program Women’s Level 10 athletes and Men’s Level 8, 9 and 10 athletes.

“The Ocean Center is honored to host the first USA Gymnastics Development Program National Championships,” said Ocean Center Director Tim Riddle. “This is yet another opportunity for thousands of event attendees to experience our facility, as well as all that our community has to offer. We’re always excited to welcome new events to our area, with confidence their experience here will leave them with a positive impression of Volusia County.”

Due to COVID-19 and to ensure the safety of event participants and staff, attendance is limited to athletes and their guests. Events will be streamed live by FloGymnastics.com.
