Opioid Abatement Funding Advisory Board

Event Date(s)

Begins: February 27, 2025 10:00 am
Ends: February 27, 2025 12:00 pm

Volusia County's Opioid Funding Advisory Board will meet in the Dennis R. McGee Room at the Daytona Beach International Airport, 700 Catalina Drive, Daytona Beach.

As a result of the national opioid crisis, many governmental entities throughout the United States filed lawsuits against opioid manufacturers, distributors, and retailers to hold them accountable for the damage caused and to recover monetary damages for past harms and future abatement efforts. As a result of this litigation and negotiated settlements, the State of Florida anticipates receiving settlement funds distributed over multiple years. The State has entered into agreements with local governments to receive settlement funds. As part of the State agreement with Volusia County Government, Volusia County will be the recipient of regional funds on behalf of the County and the eligible municipalities within the county region. The State agreement has established guidelines on how the funds may be used toward the abatement of opioid related harms.

By interlocal agreement between Volusia County and 13 eligible participating municipalities, the Opioid Abatement Funding Advisory Board was established as a collective of appointed representatives, one from each of the government bodies. The purpose of the board is to ensure that settlement funds are used to address opioid-related impacts within Volusia County. The board has reviewed the County’s Opioid Abatement Plan and will make funding award recommendations to the Volusia County Council consistent with that plan and the State agreement. The board is tasked with funding services and programs that are available to and benefit all residents of Volusia County.
